by Graeme McRanor, A Barenaked Lady touched down in Vancouver yesterday. Ed Robertson, founding member of the Barenaked Ladies, was here shooting episodes of his OLN show Ed's Up!, which sees the singer and avid pilot take on various jobs in different locations around North America. "The basic premise of the show is, I get GPS coordinates and a contact name and I fly anywhere and see what it’s like to do a day in the life of someone's job," he said. "It's everything from forest-fire fighting to hospital cleaning to biochemistry research to diving to commercial fishing. It’s like Dirty Jobs but they’re not all dirty." Robertson spent some time as a member of Vancouver airport's ground crew and sorted and delivered mail for Canada Post. Next up, the plan calls for him to lay fibre-optic cable along the Sea to Sky highway with a crew from Bell Canada: “So when the communications aren't working well for the 2010 Olympics you’ll know who to blame." So what's the worst job he's ever done? "Hands down, tree planting." |
